......... day 44

Hello Again Kats & Kittens, Friend & Fiend,

We would like to again thank MR. PATRICK KING for his VJ Roadtrip yesterday…very insightful…well done.

New thing here at culturematters.org see title bar above? HIT PLAY is open for biz….find out HIT PLAY!

Time Abounds!!!! Like Folks hoarding their hoard….endless. What to do? Make SHRUBS! Drinkable Vinegar….DEEEEEELISH! Started science Saturday last……Shredded Apples/Brown Sugar/Cider Vinegar/Jar…..the wait begins…. You can have fun with vinegar too, go to the nice folks in the Eastern Market (the “in the know folks” know) & find THE MCCLARY BROS., they’ll help. Or…hit button below.

ONWARD!

A lot of this going ‘round in these uncluttered times…..”Talkin’ Loud, And Sayin’ Nothin’”…..Amen Brother JAMES….without further adieu we present… Mr. PLEASE PLEASE ME, SOUL BROTHA NUMBER ONE, Mr. JAMES BROWN. This tune taken off In The Jungle Groove LP…. FANTASTIC record…. what’s to say about Mr. DYNAMITE….Singing young, Buck Dancer for WWII troops heading out (hit buttons, look up), Piano, Guitar, Harmonica, Pro-Boxer for a minute, Convicted Robber 16 years old, inside Juvie Detention started Gospel Quartet, was known as MUSIC BOX in stir…..there is so much more about this American icon….Hits, hits, hits, Grammy this & Award that…..audacious family….we could go on but won’t….so we’ll start shimmy shakin’. Please join in.

Hairpin curves ahead, hold on! We swerve into weirdness with THE LAKE CITY ASTROS……playing “Fish Fry”….off a crazy little thing titled Fish Fry…. go figure.

Staying in the weird lane, here’s GUARCO, with “Monster” from the Fiebre LP. NYC by way of Montevideo…..fun times…

Let’s up the tempo with KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD….hmm…that rhymes. From the wonderfully titled Flying Microtonal Banana album, Smoke much green? Here’s…“Open Water”…. This is a big messy psych-rock band hailing from Melbourne, OZ . 2017 these Kats did something only idiots or geniuses do….they released five full length albums…in one year! FIVE! Named & released in this order: Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of the Universe; Sketches of Brunswick East,  Polygondwanaland, & Gumboot Soup. Being Fly on wall during these sessions would have been a scream…So Idiots? Geniuses? Listen, trip out a little, you decide…

PRIMUS SUCKS! was a common chant at concerts for this band….but they really don’t….LES CLAYPOOL is a prankster armed with a big bad bass, wicked sense of funny, an oddball’s oddball….they play Absurdist Metal Funk (their term)….Oh there’s this….Mr. POOL is an avid Fly Fisher, Smokes Weed aaaa lot, Wine maker, Outspoken, Eccentric ….

Here’s “Jerry Was A Racecar Driver” from the Sailing The Seas Of Cheese album. This 1992 album, their first major label record. KIRK HAMMETT (METALLICA) once uttered “they're a square peg in a round hole”….indeed…. so no round folks please….

You know once is not enough…..LES has a side hustle….DUO DE TWANG…let’s supe up “Jerry” into a countrified version….with help from high school buddy BRIAN KEHOE on guitar…this “country funk outfit” was supposed to be a one off live gig for SanFran’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest…applause happened, thoughts given, thoughts taken, a record produced…Four Foot Shack… Jam on Mr. CLAYPOOL & Mr. KEHOE.

Staying with the strings section, we roll in on STEVE TIBBETTS….heard of him? Maybe not….this Madison, Cheeseland native is an enigma….mostly instrumental music, mostly by himself…"postmodern neo-primitivism" (his words) JAZZ FUSION on steroids….field recording’s, bending strings in odd ways, exotic instruments. This tune from his debut record, 1977’s Steve Tibbetts….”How Do You Like My Buddha?” well, we think it’s nice….oh that was rhetorical…. Fasten your seatbelt, this one gets bumpy.

Whew! Let’s take a slowdown here with MIRANDA LAMBERT…love her voice. Grammys, Country Music Awards,+ + +. Ms. LAMBERT has a things for mutts…. started MUTTNATION FOUNDATION with Mom…. Here’s “Mama, I’m Alrght” from to 2005 hot selling Kerosene LP.

Back in the car, with SNIFF ‘N’ THE TEARS…. a British late ’70s One-hit outfit…from the 1979 Fickle Heart LP…”Driver’s Seat” A tidbit here, recorded in 1978 this album took over a year to be released , distro probs…then the band fractured, almost ended. most of the originals exiting…they kept on though. Made another eight albums, but never hit the zenith of “Driver’s Seat”…. Seems someone else took the wheel.

We all got troubles right?….”You’ve Got Your Troubles”…I got mine…. ah…. THE FORTUNES with their chart hit from the self titled The Fortunes 1965 record…Great harmonies here….times 3…. Fun Fact: THE FORTUNES recorded two Coca-Cola jingles…1967 “Things Go Better With Coke” & 1969’s “It’s The Real Thing”. Baby!

All the time we have for today…..

Thanks for listening, until tomorrow.

Peace & Distance.
