......... day 42

Hello Again Kats & Kittens, Friend & Fiend,

We could always use some CASH, right? CHUCK MEAD thinks so too….he’s got one of Johnny’s hits ready & willin’…..sort of….

Chuck Mead & His Grassy Knoll Boys take us through the isolated woes of the 2020 Quarantine to the tune of Hank Snow's 1962 classic, "'I've Been Everywhere"....

ONWARD!

Today we are in MISH-MASH-MODE….all day long…. we head to Mexico….with LEGADO 7, not really, these Kats reside in O.C. SoCal…but they play Norteno music, a musical style from Northen Mexico…don’t let the Orange County tag get in the way…they bring it…mostly songs about Herb, not HHHHerb…ERB….you know, the green stuff, the now legal stuff…WEED…so here’s “Los Chanates” from the En Vivo Con Tololoche (a tololoche is a smaller bass fiddle that Norteno music utilizes). Disfrutar!

Ahhhhhh….this next guest is one of this reporter’s most favs….reminds one of University days…ELVIS COSTELLO from his first record…1977’s My Aim Is True….Mr. ELVIS is very prodigious…twenty-five studio albums + ten collaboration albums…. 1977, angry young man, Mr. ELVIS & THE ATTRACTIONS got kicked off SNL for changing the prepped song “Less Than Zero”, it is a LIVE show remember, after a few bars, Mr. ELVIS stopped the band, then switched to the forbidden tune “Radio, Radio”, (it criticizes consumerism to the masses by BIGBIZ TV)….wonder why NBC/Loren forbade them that tune?….Mr.ELVIS & band were banished until 1989…. By the by...because of the kerfuffle with LOREN….the album sold like toilet paper today….OFF. THE. SHELVES! Here’s “Welcome To The Working Week”. Go get this record!

CATEY SHAW is up next, so bright & shiny…..exudes a smile….Ms. Shaw was discovered busking for food & art supplies, by producer JAY LEVINE in the NYC Subways…..they did good….here’s “Family” off her 2013 Clouds EP…. We like the Uke.

Found this Bangor, Maine duo last year at the Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto. Chris & Sasha make up WHEN PARTICLES COLLIDE….these two met while singing in a Bangor production of Hedwig & The Angry Inch, 2010….they likey, so they tourey….& the road goes on….very fun watch, live. Here’s “Finally Found The One” off the Ego album.

ODESSA is from an interesting world of her making….Violin @ 4, SoCal Dad in surf bands, Carnegie Hall Performance, Modeling for VERSACE, became a MAGNETIC ZERO for EDWARD SHARP, also OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW….violin pro is in the want/need column…Released her self titled 2014 EP thru our friends at Chop Shop Records…here’s “I Will Be There”.

We have “The Death Wheelers Theme” from of course THE DEATH WHEELERS….heavy heavy mood modifier…these Kats hail from Quebec City, QC…and love, love, love ‘70s Bikerflix.. Their name is a pull from the ‘73 UK biker-a-rama flick…PSYCHOMANIA (later changed to THE DEATH WHEELERS for US eyes)….Krazy sludge of a movie…this is taken off a digital single from the band’s BANDCAMP pages….check them out…but wear a helmet….

JAY SOM, not real name, Filipino roots, SanFran Bay Area, some have named her style Bedroom-Pop…hmmm….ok we’ll go with that…mostly it’s because she built a recording studio in her bedroom & continues to record her work there…..”MAAAH’M, I said knock!” Here’s “1 Billion Dogs” from her Everbody Works album, 2017. Fun Fact: chose her stage name thru an online name generator….so JAY + SOM….”MOM I”M WORKING!!!!”

JOE GODDARD is into INDIETRONICA….?…self made electronic music? isn’t it all self made? Its a thing…really…………..moving on, Mr. Goddard is usually with the Electro-club HOT CHIP…but today we find him alone…off his Electric Lines (Remixes) LP, here’s “Music Is The Answer”…..hand claps please…

Ready for some SKA riddums? Hope so, you have no choice…our friends at DAPTONE Records have another winner! NYC’s THE FRIGHTNRS. Love the vibe here….so laid back…taken off their first full length LP….Nothing More To Say….here’s the lovely “Nothing More To say”. pick this record up….really, we mean it…

When we hear the next tune, we think of our near & dear….mostly because it’s her ringtone…..but she still is a “Brickhouse” & we still start shimmy shakin’…. From the self titled 1977 Commodores LP, we end today with the funky kool COMMODORES….don’t stop, we see that shimmy shakin’. Also on this LP, “Easy” ….like a Sunday Morning’…..like today…

Thanks for listening, until tomorrow.

Peace & Distance.
