Tiki Culture is an octopus with tentacles stretching out. One shoots off into MUSIC: Lounge, Jazz, Rockabilly, Calypso, Reggae, Surf, mixing EXOTIC! Another tentacle slings out into FASHION….you have an Hawaiian shirt in your closet don’t you? Another suction cup envelops imbibery & sustenance….FOOD … Polynesian foods like Koelepalau, Po’e, ‘otai, & don’t forget SPAM. ART is another scene in Tiki World…check out SHAG above & below… ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN, Tropical styled bungalows, Tiki Bars & Mugs (like above), Rattan anyone? ENTERTAINMENT too, movies like…White Shadows in the South Seas (1928) & Bird of Paradise (1932), ELVIS in Blue Hawaii…also THOR HEYERDAHL'S 1947 award-winning expedition film Kon-Tiki served up a platter of oceanic pu-pu living!

The Kat above left is the Tiki starter of all Tiki starter kits… Swamp State Rum Runner ERNEST RAYMOND BEAUMONT-GANTT… say whaaa!? Not so Loungey right? Young Ernest sailed the Pacific, found Eden upon Eden….lush drinks, exotic women, shrunken heads, sugar sand beaches, tiny guitars, small umbrellas(who knew?)… Started a Polynesian styled imbibery in 1933 H’Wood…jump started the Tiki Lounge trade, legally changed to DONN BEACH of Don the Beachcomber fame. What a shindig this Kat threw…Moving Picture Stars & Starlets…Big HOWARD…Politicos…Fuzz, Dead beats, Hangers-on, Smoozers…built a catalog of Rum drinks that could blind a person…silly rum…Navy Grog, Cobra's Fang, Pearl Diver, Pi Yi, Shark's Tooth, Test Pilot, & Zombie(so strong, you’re only allowed two, then get out!)
Tiki World got bigger in ‘36 with the addition of Oaktown Resturantuer VICTOR BERGERON took in a meal at Don The Beachcomber’s, love at first bite/sip…went back north changed his establishment to TRADER VIC’S, Palm fronds, Bamboo, Polynesia head explosion! Created the Mai Tai, Fog Cutter, & Scorpion’s Bowl…thirsty? Yes we are!
