DAVID BOWIE……..what to say, what to write….hmmmm…a bit daunting right? Such a legacy. Let’s give er a try……
Real name DAVID JONES, changes it, to not be a MONKEE…plays Saxophone young, digs Jazz, then Rock…mop hair, early '60s art, theater, & mime school, three bands, not really his thing….solos the way to go-go. Releases a couple “odd ducks”, folky acoustics very theatrical, then 1969 first solo LP, David Bowie, with “Space Oddity”….”what’s this?”…heads turn…next is Man Who Sold The World (you’re welcome KURT), sales OK, thinks to himself, “I should be someone else…like an Alien”…births ZIGGY STARDUST, then ALADDIN SANE, glam is born…parents freak, androgyny is in.
Mountains of Cocaine…troubles brew with management, revolving door. “Must be you, ‘cause its not me.”… like breathing air, in/out…in/out. “ZIGGY” slowly goes mad….sort of…THE THIN WHITE DUKE emerges…BOWIE has trouble with reality & stays in character, like all the time. Mid 70s to BERLIN! Buds IGGY POP, FREDDY MERC, don’t help, BRIAN ENO does…helps produce THE BERLIN TRILOGY. BOWIE produces IGGY tunes. Cherman time gets rough, shouldn’t do “Sieg Heil” salutes in public…the “snow” gets out of hand…Evac a must, back to Blighty…hits the 80’s with new verve, cleans up,…loses ids & egos, just DAVID….Let’s Dance! Peaks 1983…tries Band again, TIN MACHINE, one LP, doesn’t go for Democracy back to onesie…

Keeps creating as music landscape wobbles, MTV, Hip-Hop, Grunge, Metal, Alternative, Fred Durst, Chumbawumba…his machine keeps making mostly relevant music…. Genius is like that…slows down some, acts some, (Labyrinth, Man Who Fell to Earth….Aliens?….hmmm..)….into the Aughts voice work for SPONGE BOB TV movie, jump ahead, DENIS VILLENEUVE was to cast BOWIE in Blade Runner 2049 as the lead villain…sadly he passed away before that could happen. Last album Blackstar made in secret…released January 8, 2016…two days later BOWIE dies…
Producer TONY VISCONTI: “He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. Final Fact: most folks think Mr. BOWIE had different colored eyes, known as Heterochromia…real story…1961 school chum GEORGE UNDERWOOD wallops DAVID’s left eye…4 months of hospital, several ops, the eye is damaged cannot fix, faulty depth perception , permanently dilated pupil… The fight? Over a girl…natch…
